Sarah and Jack were so excited to be first-time parents, but at the 20-week ultrasound, they found out too soon the hardships of parenthood. The anatomy scan showed that their baby boy had a Lower Urinary Tract Obstruction (LUTO) or Prune Belly Syndrome. This diagnosis means the bladder was abnormally large and causing pressure on the chest cavity leaving little room for the lungs to develop. The enlarged bladder also put a strain on the kidneys and eventually Baby Francis stopped making urine in utero, which caused his kidneys to develop cysts; a sign of kidney failure. When Francis was born he was unable to breathe on his own, so Sarah and Jack gave Francis palliative care and loved him so much for his 17 hours of life. Francis was born on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 7:35 PM. He weighed 6lbs 12oz and was 21 inches long. He had a lot of blond hair, big feet, and hands that loved to hold on to momma. Francis will be missed deeply by everyone and will forever remain in his family's hearts. Francis will be laid to rest with his grandpa, Frank Connelly, in Savage.
