Francis Higgins & Kanturk AFC

I am asking everyone to please support as best you can this fundraiser for Kanturk AFC. I am attempting to run the Dublin marathon on the 29th October in memory of my brother Francis, who died from cancer 15 years ago last April.
The idea of running the Dublin marathon for Kanturk AFC has been in my head since March 2017.
See I never exercised much, ate all the wrong stuff, and could neverunderstand why these runners could put themselves through so much pain to do marathons.
But one evening at work, I thought of my brother, instantly broke down crying. Naturally I was always remembering my late brother, but this time I was inconsolable. I was unable to see in front of me with tears in my eyes. This went on for about an hour and I just couldn’t explain it.
Later it started all over again. Next day I was trying to figure out what triggered this but got no answer. As I was going through this Delayed Grieving Process thinking about him, the idea came into my head. He ran the inaugural Dublin marathon and was a volunteer for Kanturk AFC and he loved both. So I connected both in his memory.
I started walking, eating healthier, and, with great help from family and 2 great friends, I lost nearly 6 stone. I tried the running and with hard fact advice from my brother Vincent, I slowly but surely got going. I applied for entry but this failed and failed again for a number of years.
Then COVID happened.
I joined Mount Hilary AC and what a brilliant bunch they are. My wife Amanda secretly applied and 1 question was if I was a member of an affiliated club. She answered “Mount Hilary AC” and I totally believe that that’s what swung it for me, and I had an entry.
So that’s my wee strange story of why I’m doing this; A delayed grieving process and the need for me to do something to make him proud.
Hope you can support me as best you can. Thank you, and thanks for reading this.
