Hi friends,
As many of you know, we lost our son, Caleb Dean Wilson, on October 3, 2022. Early in Danielle's pregnancy, Caleb was diagnosed with anencephaly, a severe neural tube defect. Receiving this diagnosis meant there was a good chance that we would not be able to bring our son home from the hospital. We had the unique experience of spending Danielle's pregnancy preparing for our son's loss. At times that knowledge felt like such a curse, but as we planned for his arrival, that same knowledge grew into such a blessing. We found ways to love and honor our son's life and found so much joy in getting to celebrate him. We spent months thinking about what our time at the hospital would be like and got to plan how we wanted to spend the short time we would have with him. Leaving the hospital without our son was one of the hardest things we will ever have to do. Bringing home personal items of his, like his hand and footprints, his blankets, and photos, brought us so much comfort, especially in those early days. Caleb's life has so much meaning and value to us, and we deeply cherish every memory of him.
We've been brainstorming ways to support local families walking through stillbirth and infant loss. We thought about all the personalized items and gifts we had spent months preparing to bring to the hospital. We wanted other families to have this same gift and wanted to continue to celebrate and honor other babies in heaven.
We are raising money to supply our local hospital (United Regional Wichita Falls) with clay molds to take baby hand and foot impressions. The impressions will be sent off to Cowtown Clays in Fort Worth, and they will frame them in a beautiful acrylic frame and return them to the family. This is such a unique and personalized gift, and we hope it brings some comfort to these families experiencing loss.
In reality, outside of Jesus, there's not a lot that can be done to take away the pain of losing a child. Our biggest hope is that we can communicate to these families that their child is valuable and loved. Even though their child's time on earth is shorter, they are still important and a part of God's story. We hope you would consider donating to help us support other families navigating grief and loss. Thank you!
Samuel and Danielle Wilson
