Fractured at 50

Hello,

I want to start by saying, "thank you" whether or not you donate just the fact that you take time to read my story during this difficult personal time warms my heart so "thank you."

I would have never though I could find myself in a hospital bed fractured at 50 years old. Life is so fragile, never do we think of it but when you least expect it the rug can be pulled from underneath your feet.

October 23, 2019 at 6:00 AM I started my day like any other day, getting ready for work. Around 7:35 I went downstairs to walk to the bus stop. I live in Pompano Beach and work in Boca Raton about an hour bus ride. I needed to cross the street and like a good pedestrian I pressed the button waiting for the green light and looked both way before crossing the street. As I crossed through the walkway there was not a car in sight, yet out of the blue a huge SUV truck was making a U-turn and did not see me crossing, and you guessed it, ran straight into the left side of my body. On impact, my left wrist was broken and dislocated and my left knee was shattered. I flew up through the air and landed on my buttocks. I was laying flat on the ground thinking "what just hit me?" (no pun intended).  But really, you know how they describe it on movies, your life flashing before your eyes, that how I felt. Everything was moving so fast  yet so slow. People came rushing from their cars and the surrounding stores to help. The ambulance and police came in a flash. I was rushed to the emergency room. Thankfully there was no internal bleeding. I did need surgery for my left wrist and left knee. I had two surgeries that involved an open reduction and internal fixation of my wrist and knee. Basically placing a lot of screws and plats on both of these areas. Each surgery needed to be done separately because the doctors needed to wait for the inflammation and swelling around the knee area to go down. This meant that I had to go under anesthesia twice. Two surgeries, two separate bills. I also had a nose fracture and a reduction between the spinal level of T10 and T11; surgery may be pending in the future. But here I am, alive to tell the story, and for this reasonnI am eternally grateful, it could have been so much worst.

Given the unexpectedness of this unfortunate incident I will not be able to go to work. I am a 50 year old, single, Polish women living in Pompano Beach, Florida who is renting her apartment and just graduated from a 3 year Masters Program of Oriental Medicine. I was looking forward to working more hours from a part-time job to a full-time and studying for my National Licensing Exams for Acupuncture but that will all be on hold. For how long you ask? I don't know. But I am estimating that I will be in recovery for at least 6 month minimum. This is why I am asking you for help. My routine monthly expenses are about $2,000 dollars per month not counting that I do not have medical insurance and medical bill will soon be flooding my doorstep. I am asking you to help me raise at least $12,000 dollars to cover my monthly household expenses for 6 months. Thank you for your support!

Yours truly,
Fractured @ 50
