Statement in Support of Ihtesham

I am writing this statement with deep concern and compassion to share the painful story of my close friend, Ihtesham, who is currently going through one of the most difficult times of his life.

Ihtesham arrived in the UK in May 2024 with high hopes and strong determination. He joined university that same month to pursue his Master’s degree—fully committed to building a better future through education, hard work, and personal sacrifice. Like many international students, he took on part-time jobs, including food delivery, to manage his living expenses and pay his tuition fees.

But on 1st June 2025, a tragic accident changed everything.

While working as a delivery rider that day, Ihtesham noticed a seagull standing in the middle of the road. In an attempt to avoid hitting it with his bike, he quickly swerved to change his path. But in doing so, he lost control and fell hard onto the road. The impact caused a serious fracture in his right leg.

What makes this even more heartbreaking is that he lay on the roadside for almost an hour—alone, in immense pain, with no one stopping to help. Eventually, he managed to call some friends, who rushed to the scene and took him to the hospital.

He remained hospitalised for three weeks due to the severity of the injury. Though he has now been discharged, his recovery is far from over. He cannot walk properly, cannot work, and is in both physical and emotional pain.

Before the accident, Ihtesham was doing everything he could to support himself. His father, despite facing financial struggles in the last six months due to serious losses in his business, had still been helping him from back home. But now, even that support is no longer possible.

Ihtesham currently owes around £2,800 in unpaid tuition fees to his university. On top of that, he is expected to apply and pay for his Post Study Work (PSW) visa, but without any source of income, it feels impossible.

Despite everything, Ihtesham remains hopeful. He came to the UK with a dream—to study, to grow, and to contribute—and he has worked so hard to achieve it. But right now, he is in a place of deep difficulty and needs urgent support.

I am sharing this statement with the hope that it reaches kind-hearted people who can understand the pain he is going through. Any support—financial or emotional—would truly mean the world to him in this moment of crisis.

Sincerely,

Zain Ul Abidin
