Stranded with a Fractured Ankle

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Chris and I hate doing this, but I don't know what else to do.

I'm 51 and have been independent all my life. I worked hard and was always the one helping others. I even started a national nonprofit association out of pocket that helped many in my industry.

I am more than willing to work for any donation. I have a portfolio of B2B marketing materials, have a fair hand at writing and editing, and can do some limited video work. I have a podcast discussing mental health issues and would welcome sponsors. My podcast is only 14 episodes in (weekly), so it does not have much traffic yet, but the responses from listeners have been great.

I was down in Tijuana on a contract position that ended. I liked it here, so I extended my stay to see if I could find a remote position in a new industry while working on my book and podcast. I have a background in journalism. The plan was to move back home to Philadelphia and start my next job at the end of September if a remote position did not pan out.

I had enough money to pay rent and then drive back to Philadelphia, where a job is waiting for me. The Universe intruded on my plans. Friday, September 9th, was the first time it rained. Here in Tijuana, some parts of the sidewalks are tiles and, I found, can be like ice. Coming down a hill, I hit a tile and fell hard on my ankle. It was the most excruciating pain I had ever felt. Then, I walked three blocks on it to my apartment.

X-rays revealed I fractured it. The doctor explained I cannot put any pressure on it for 6 to 8 weeks or risk the need for surgery. It is my right foot, so I cannot drive. Medical and living expenses are cheap here, but they drained my limited reserves, especially as I now have to depend upon delivery services that upcharge everything.

Even living as cheaply as possible, I did not have enough to cover bills for October, let alone the following November. The position in Philadelphia is being held for me, but I need time to heal.

I am continuing my remote job search. I am applying for anything and everything as I continue my work on my book and podcast.

My resume and far too much information about me can be found on my website below.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.
