Help Alicia Heal!!

Our dear friend Alicia has recently been diagnosed with liver cancer and will be undergoing a 9-month internal radiation treatment to eradicate the tumors and lesions on her weakened liver. After the success of this treatment will come the treatment of her chronic Hepatitis C with new therapies. This Hepatitis C has caused excessive scarring on her liver, also known as cirrhosis, so the long-term plan is liver transplant. Because transplants involve closing down the body's immune system so that the new organ will be accepted, her cancer needs to be eradicated first.

This is Alicia's second battle with cancer. She was successfully treated for breast cancer just 2 1/2 years ago and her goal is to beat it again. It’s going to be a long road back to full health, so this may be just the first request for help.

Because of spending many weeks with her ailing mother in North Carolina, who passed this April 26, and because of Covid, Alicia hasn’t been able to fully operate her B&B and Hip Camp which is her income source. The unexpected outflow of funds coming on the coattails of these medical news is more reasons Alicia needs financial help from her community right now.

As we all know Alicia is almost always bright-spirited, but the care for and death of her mom and this second round with cancer have left her emotionally and physically exhausted. Thankfully, Alicia’s physical pain and symptoms are currently surprisingly minimal . However, once she starts treatment, the side effects will be pain, chronic fatigue and “brain fog”. She has lined up people to help with mowing, horse care, housecleaning and generally running part of her business. Any funds raised will be used to provide some financial relief so she can rest and heal, as well as pay uncovered medical costs.
