Plumbing Emergency Fund
Valentines Week 2021, San Antonio experienced a disastrous winter weather tragedy. Unprecedented snow and freezing temperatures- then power outages. For 3 days, this continued.
Going back to Friday, 2/5, Kris and I closed the purchase on the home we have been renting for 4 years! It took months for us to close. For a poor girl from a single parent family, the idea of EVER owning a home wasn’t a reality. But look at us! We did it!
Then the storm happened.
Today, is Friday 2/19. The emergency plumbing service just left our new purchased home. Plumbing fixed, and $2100 less in bank. Home insurance doesn’t cover any of it.
Our 100 year old pier and beam designed house was not made to withstand the weather we had. Our pipes froze, burst and gushed water for two hours. We have had no running water since Tuesday. Now, the entire county is under a ‘boil water’ notice. Our two neighbors- their pipes also burst. THIS IS A DISASTER.
Can you help us? Kris is a teacher. I’m a full time student. I started a home business in October, selling pastry goods. We spent our savings on plumbing. Covid has left us scared and stressed and anxious. We weren’t prepared for this.
We will all take showers here in a bit. We will try to go buy some food (stores are empty, lines are hours long), we will stay warm and keep reading. But we are sad and scared.
Thank you, Kris and Misa Holmes, her daughter Lola May Parkin and their two cats Otis and Carla.
