Nik's Recovery Fund

Updated: 8/6/19:

Nik here:

Thank You all so much for donating to this GoFundMe that my friend Ian Myers started for me. I am so touched and humbled by your support through this recovery process. I can't express how relieving it has been to have some of the financial burden of recuperating lifted by your donations. We are just over half way to our goal--Thank You!!!--but still have a ways to go, so please keep sharing!

What Happened:

As many of you know from Facebook, I fell off a roof about 2 weeks ago while I was helping a friend paint her house. Luckily, I didn't hit my head or paralyze myself when I landed. Instead I hit with the full force of the fall on the rim of a 5-gallon bucket--on my hip.

Since I was in too much pain to walk, Megan helped me get to my bed and lay down. I was hoping it would calm down and just be a bad bone bruise. When I tried to stand up a few hours later, it was the most painful thing I have ever felt--I almost passed out from the pain. The next morning our dear friend Troy came to give us a ride to the hospital. It took almost an hour to get me into his car from my bed--which was 20 feet away. Sure enough, when we got the Xray's my femur was broken at the hip, right where the indentation of the bucket rim was. The ER Physician told me I needed emergency surgery, but they had to order special screws and a large metal plate. I was able to have the procedure two days after the initial break and not eating or drinking anything but a cup of water.

The surgery was successful! I feel so blessed that I live in a place where this kind of emergency surgery is practiced and available. Luckily my Oregon Health Plan insurance will cover the cost of the surgery. But I'm out of work for at least two months while I heal and learn to walk again. There are many expenses to this process that insurance won't cover, on top of the regular bills. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'd love to see any of you in person while I'm healing up. Company and good laughs are the best medicine!

Much Love,

Nik

Original Post By Ian Myers:

Two good friends of mine, Megan Mae and Nikolos Ayres, have fallen into a very serious situation. Yesterday, I came across the FB post below.

The Situation (FB Post)

Megan posted:

"Because I can't focus long enough to fill y'all in . . . In Troy Howard's words: "My friend Nik fell off a roof. Luckily he didn't die, but he did break his hip and can't walk. I picked him up this morning and brought him to the ER and have been hanging with him all day. He's gonna have surgery tomorrow to screw his leg back together.

This is the same guy who I brought over the other day to do an oil change with his partner Megan. They do odd jobs/construction work and are living in their camper at the job site where he fell.

Him and Megan were planning to hit the road and travel, living in their camper and doing odd job work as they went. They were scheduled to leave next week, but this interrupts those plans in a really unfortunate way.

He's going to be laid up for at least two months while he recovers and won't be able to work or drive. Megan doesn't drive. They need to move the trailer from the job site next week, and need a place to park it and live until he recovers. This is entirely unplanned and they don't have money for that. Luckily he has OHP insurance, but otherwise they are really in trouble."

The Goal (My Estimate)

Nik does have health insurance (thank god). But he will not be able to work for at least 2 months... This leaves Megan, alone, to take care of him and herself for this time.

I decided to set the number to 4K, based on continuous income lost, while Megan tries to keep both of them afloat. But any amount helps. Enough small steps, from enough kind people, can get us to 1K and maybe even to the final mark.

They have run into so many hurdles, especially this past year. They never ask for anything, they just suck it up and keep pushing on,  while still helping others when they are able. It would be nice to see the universe give
them a hand.
