My name is Liam Jefferson and in 2010, while I was 14 years old, I was diagnosed with leukemia. Thankfully, I went into remission after getting a bone marrow transplant.
Unfortunately, the cancer came back in 2019. After a long fight and with the great care from the healthcare professionals, I thankfully received another bone marrow transplant in 2019, and I’ve been in remission ever since.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve been really hard-hit financially. My dad, who is a Millwright and can’t work from home, was in and out of work due to the lockdowns and because he had to take me to the hospital for regular check-ups. When the third wave got really bad, my dad was worried about contracting COVID-19 and giving it to me, so he made the hard decision to stop working to protect me. Now that the COVID-19 cases have gone down, my dad is trying to go back to work, but his car got towed because he fell behind the car payments so he’s unable to get to work.
We’ve fallen behind on a lot of our bills: rent, car payments, credit card debt for groceries and other essentials and we just need some help to get back on our feet and to avoid getting evicted. We’ve tried finding government support, but unfortunately, there’s no program that can help support us. With the donation money, we’re hoping to pay back our rent arrears, our car payments and credit card debt.
Now that I’m in recovery, I’m finishing up my high school courses that I missed after being sick for so long. My dream is to become a nurse so that I can give back to the world that’s given me so much.
Please consider donating, any amount helps. Stay safe everyone.
