Help us bring Marlee Home
Donation protected
We are heartbroken to share the devastating news of the sudden passing of Marlee Vanessa Eggleston (August 6, 1998 - May 28, 2024). Marlee passed away from anaphylactic shock while in Chicago visiting her Aunt Sue, who is currently in hospice.
In the wake of this tragedy, we are reaching out to our community of family and friends for support. The cost to bring Marlee home from the US is tremendous, upwards of $65,000. Her mother Colleen has the burden of not only losing her daughter but the weight of the substantial hospital bill, autopsy bill and the cost to get Marlee over the border and back home.
At 25 years old, Marlee was just getting started. She was recently hired by the Durham District School Board to work as a 1:1 aid for children with disabilities. Since September 2023, she was placed at Pringle Creek Elementary and Westney Heights Public School and quickly demonstrated her value as an advocate, teacher and friend to children who are often marginalized, unheard and unseen.
Marlee also supported families directly and will be dearly missed by Gracie, Marlowe and Tatum. Marlee saw them and they saw her. "I don't know why, but children with disabilities have always been drawn to me, feel safe with me," Marlee shared.
