Please Help Katie Sexton Dempsey and Jon Dempsey

We are trying to fundraise for Katie and Jon’s medical expenses. After going through a complicated and high-risk pregnancy, Katie developed preeclampsia and had an emergency C-section on June 10th. Teddy was born almost six weeks early.

After being discharged from the hospital and having to leave Teddy since he was a preemie, Jon and Katie spent all day at the hospital being with and feeding Teddy. Katie soon developed abscesses where her C-section incision is. She was immediately admitted back into the hospital with a severe incision infection. The Drs reopened the wound many times and put a drainage tube in to try and drain the infection.
When finally re-released from the hospital, nurses visited their house daily to care for Katie’s wounds.
Teddy was able to go home after seven days in NICU.
Jon has been a rockstar taking care of a premie newborn.

Within a week, Katie was re-admitted to the hospital, where they found blood clots in both legs and her lungs and an enlarged heart. She couldn’t stand or walk this past week, and her blood pressure has been very high and very low. Katie is working on walking with a cane and walker now.

A little background on Katie (pictured here at Children’s Hospital when she was eight years old).

At 7 weeks old, Katie was hospitalized with her first UTI and bladder infection. She has had many surgeries and countless hospitalizations, including a kidney removal.
Katie grew up in the south suburbs and went to Apple Valley schools. She graduated from Lakeville high school due to her family moving, and later graduated from Metro State College.
Katie told her parents at eight years old that when she grew up, she wanted to work for either Children’s hospital or The Ronald McDonald House. She has done both and more! She is currently Director of Hospital Programs for the Ronald McDonald House inside Children’s Mpls, Children’s St. Paul, Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare and the new Ronald McDonald House in Duluth.

Thanks in advance for your generosity and support!
