Medical Bills for Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
Mike Maddox is known to us as brother, friend, and Doctor. Over the past nearly 20 years he fought Lyme disease, against a system that didn't want to acknowledge the disease existed. Now he is fighting another medical demon - colon cancer. Surgery was attempted on Valentine's Day, but the mass was too large and also adhered to other organs. Chemotherapy is set to begin March 5th, every 2 weeks, for 16 weeks. Then depending on the amount of shrinkage- radiation and two more surgeries (remove adenocarcinoma and ileostomy bag) will follow.
Between Lyme disease and seeing his own patients struggle with insurance issues, Mike has opted to be "self-pay". He gambled that he would make it to Medicare at the age of 65, without insurance. Unfortunately, he fell short by 12 months. Obviously the costs of treatments and surgeries will be monumental. He plans to stay open and treat patients as normal. With your help, that should continue until he is 90!
On behalf of Mike, we (sisters and friends) thank you for any and all donations during this time. Equally, we covet your prayers and encouragement in the days to come. He is a bit stubborn (understatement!) and may come across like this is no big deal, which we all know is not the case. He may need a ride, a healthy meal, or someone to sit with him in chemo. Finally, we ask that you share this GoFundMe on your social accounts and email to anyone that knows Mike.
Sincere Thanks,
Sisters - Toni and Marta; Friends - Jim, Kellye, Bart, Pradeep and of course Romeo!
A few of the many recipients of Mike's kindness and generosity over the years:
"Dr. Maddox has helped a countless number of people with their health issues over the decades. My cardiologist said Dr. Maddox saved my life by insisting I see him after some symptoms of heart damage. Now it is our time to help him with our prayers and financial support". Jim Innes - grateful friend and patient.
"My son had been very sick for some time. Thanks to Mike's phone consultation we were able to pinpoint the cause as being Lyme disease. He shared his expertise freely without even really knowing me, nor accepting anything in return. My son is much better today, thanks to Mike." Diane Wilson
"Mike has been an amazing caregiver, especially to the elderly in need. He helped Dr. Charles and Linda Ward in so many ways when they were ill (Dr. Ward stayed with him for many months, drove to appointments, brought food, sat with Mrs. Ward as she died). This world is a better place because of people like Mike Maddox". Dr. Bart and Kellye Patzer - Friends, fellow Chiropractors
