Hi my name is Jordan Maher.
I started my karate training at 4 years of age and my Olympic dream began at the age of 10, hoping karate would ultimately be selected as an Olympic sport.
I am now 21 years old and have kept the dream alive by training consistently and competing nationally and overseas since the age of 10.
I have won numerous titles nationally and internationally, including the US Open twice, KBI World Championships and Oceania Championships.
I am also currently the Australian Open and Australian National Karate Champion for my division - Senior Male Kumite -75kg.
Karate has been selected as a sport for the first time in history for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the Olympic qualification process starts now!
Only 10 men from around the world will compete in my division, and only one will be selected from our region - Oceania.
I am currently the number one ranked Oceania competitor in this division, but to maintain this rank and points lead I need to compete around the world in Olympic qualifying events.
Olympic qualification begins in Berlin in just a few short weeks, followed by events in other countries almost every month.
Below is a short list of where I will be competing and training over the coming months:
Sep 2018 - K1 Premier League - Berlin
Sep 2018 - K1 A Series - Santiago
Oct 2018 - Training camp and Pacific Cup - Noumea
Oct 2018 - K1 Premier League - Tokyo
Nov 2018 - World Karate Championships - Madrid
Dec 2018 - K1 A Series - Shanghai
Jan 2019 - K1 Premier League - Paris
Feb 2019 - K1 Premier League - Dubai
Mar 2019 - K1 A Series - Salzburg
Mar 2019 - K1 Premier League - Rotterdam
There will still be more travel to come later in 2019 and early 2020 before Tokyo.
This comes with a huge financial debt as it is all self-funded.
All monies raised will go towards my travel expenses (airfares & accommodation).
I need to raise over $25,000 to keep this Olympic dream alive for myself and the Oceania region. By donating every person will be part of this dream and can follow my progress at https://www.facebook.com/jmathlete/ .
Always a huge thank you to everyone for supporting me, I really appreciate it.
Cheers, Jordan M
