Four Charities. One Cause. – The Kings Family Fundraiser

For 24 hours, two of us are taking on two very different challenges – all to raise as much money as possible for four incredible charities and in memory of four people who will forever be part of the Kings family.

From 7pm on Friday 20th November until 7pm on Saturday 21st November, Michael Beckett will once again take on a 24-HOUR POOL MARATHON, while Jay Evans will DJ continuously for the full 24 hours alongside him.

24 hours of pool.

24 hours of DJing.

Four charities. One cause.

And there's an added incentive for anyone stepping up to play Mike during the marathon...

Mike will personally donate £2 to the fundraising pot for EVERY FRAME he loses during the entire 24 hours.

So if you're playing me – don't take it easy on me! Every frame you take puts another £2 towards four fantastic causes.

But this weekend is about far more than two people trying to survive 24 hours.

SATURDAY 21ST NOVEMBER – A VERY SPECIAL DAY AT KINGS

Saturday also marks Kings Sports Bar's 3rd Birthday.

Normally that alone would be a reason for a massive celebration. This year, however, we're bringing together several things that mean an enormous amount to us and to people within our community.

We'll once again be hosting Rileys vs Pockets in the Baldwin Harrhy Cup, bringing together two huge parts of Newport's pool history and remembering people who helped make that community what it is.

It means Saturday will be a strange mixture of celebration and remembrance.

We'll be celebrating three years of Kings, celebrating friendships and the community that has grown around the club, raising as much money as we possibly can – while also sharing stories and remembering some very special people who aren't here to celebrate it with us.

Bittersweet is probably the only word for it.

This fundraiser is supporting four charities, each with a genuine connection to somebody very special to the Kings family:

St David's Hospice Care

In memory of Gillian Powell, alongside Tracey Ridsdale

Wales Air Ambulance

In memory of Paul Baldwin

Tŷ Hafan

In memory of Adam Leighton

These aren't four charities we've simply picked from a list.

There is a person, a story and a reason behind every one of them.

Some were family by blood. Some became family through friendship and the communities that existed long before Kings opened its doors.

All of them left people behind who still talk about them, laugh about them, tell stories about them and miss them.

And all of them will forever be part of the Kings family.

WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO?

All money raised through this GoFundMe and our associated fundraising will be divided equally between the four nominated charities, with each receiving 25% of the proceeds.

We'll keep everyone updated with the fundraising total and, once everything is complete, confirm exactly how much has been donated to each charity.

There will be plenty happening at Kings throughout the 24 hours and particularly on the Saturday, and we'll release much more information as we get closer.
