Beat Cancer Once, Meaghan Doesn’t Want to do it Again

I survived cancer once—and I’m doing everything I can to make sure I never have to fight it again.

My name is Meaghan. For eight years, cancer shaped every part of my life. Treatments, fear, exhaustion, and hope all lived side by side until, in February of 2022, I was finally told the words I had waited so long to hear: cancer free. I truly believed the hardest part of my journey was behind me.

But life had more challenges ahead.

Today, my doctors have told me that I have a 70% chance of developing breast cancer within the next two years. Because of that risk, they are strongly recommending a prophylactic lumpectomy—a preventive surgery meant to stop cancer before it starts. After everything I’ve already endured, the thought of going through cancer again is terrifying. I want to choose prevention. I want to choose life without another fight.

This past year has tested me in ways I never imagined. I have undergone four brain surgeries, and in April, I became blind. Learning how to live in a world I can no longer see while still facing serious medical decisions has been overwhelming—but I’m still here, still fighting, still hopeful.

At the same time, our financial foundation has been shaken. My husband, Jacob, lost his job last month, and we are losing additional income next month, due to disability payments for Jacob being paused. We are waiting for disability benefits to be approved for my blindness, but they haven’t come through yet, and it can take years. Jacob is a Navy veteran with over nine years of service and carries a 100% disability rating through the VA. He works DoorDash whenever he can to support us, but it averages about $7 an hour and simply isn’t enough to keep up.

We are still carrying heavy medical debt from my previous cancer treatments and recent surgeries, and now we are facing the cost of preventive care that could change my future.

Asking for help is incredibly hard, but right now, it’s how we keep going. Your support will help cover medical expenses, basic living costs, and allow me to move forward with this preventive surgery—a step that brings peace, hope, and the chance to move forward without constant fear.

If you’re able to donate, share, or even just hold us in your thoughts, please know how much it means. Every act of kindness helps us keep choosing hope.

Thank you for reading my story and for helping me protect the life I fought so hard to keep. ♥️
