QUARTER 3 UPDATE:
Thanks to your support, we were able to take 130 8th graders to People's Court. We had a blast. We raised a total of $900,
$400 through this fundraiser and $500 through the Pizzeria Otto fundraiser.

Now that we are in quarter 3, we are looking forward to taking students to King Pin Bowling.
We always ask for student contributions--this fund will make it possible for all students to attend.
In order to reserve the date, we will need to raise:
$500 by Feb 27.
We will also need to raise $1500 for the buses.
This event will take place on April 15.
Anything you can give will make a difference. We appreciate it.

Roseway Heights Middle School needs your support for its Points to Success program for our 190 8th grade students. This program allows all 8th grade students to have an opportunity to attend a fun field trip each quarter by maintaining a bank of points. Each quarter every student receives 500 Points and needs 370 Points to attend the activity. Students lose points for behaviors such as tardies, not following teacher directions, using a cell phone, and putting down another student. This program allows all students to make up the lost points so that everyone can attend the activity.
Through this program, students are responsible and accountable for their behaviors. The reward for doing the right thing builds community and fosters leadership for our 8th graders.
We implemented this system for the first quarter of school and have seen a positive improvement for our 8th grade students. At the end of quarter 1, out of 200 students, nearly 90% qualified for the first incentive: a field trip to the movie theater to watch Wild Robot.
Eighth grade students are the leaders of middle school and can set the tone for younger grades. They don’t always know the impact of their actions and do well with the explicit feedback and extrinsic rewards that this program provides. Students track their points through a shared google sheet. If students lose points, there are lots of opportunities to regain their points. This is both motivating and effective in getting students to make changes in their behavior.
We want all of our students to be able to have behaviors that help them succeed with school, employment, and families.
Each quarter we will be taking all 8th graders with sufficient points on an out-of-school field trip. Our school is a Title 1 school, which means most families cannot help with the cost of these important reward field trips. We do ask students who are able to help with the costs of these trips. This fundraiser will allow us to offer these trips at no or low cost to everyone who qualifies to attend.
We are a Title 1 school, which means we serve a diverse population and money is often tight. This will allow us to provide opportunities to all students.
At the end of our first quarter of the school year, we took eligible students to the Cinemark Theater to see Wild Robot. It cost us $1300 to rent the bus and $2000 to rent the movie theater.
Students were very excited to have a fun activity to attend and really enjoyed the movie and talked about for days. Students have been working very hard this quarter to maintain their points and be able to attend the second quarter activity.
The 8th grade point system doesn’t just benefit 8th graders–it is a tangible way that we can change the culture of our building. We are building leadership, rewarding positive behaviors and inspiring pride in our community.
We appreciate your support. Any amount you can give is helpful.
