The home my family is currently living in is being sold. So, I have been searching for another home for my family to live in. I've been kinship fostering my great niece who is six years old and my nephew who is three years old. (With Autism) For the last two years. CPS has specific requirements regarding housing. I have been through so much with CPS that I don’t want or need my housing to become a new issue.
After searching for some time, I was so excited and happy to find a beautiful place in Brentwood, CA. The kids and I visited the property, which was a beautiful 5-bedroom house. I met the property manager (the person showing the place for the owner) during the visit. On a subsequent visit to the home alone, I met the owner, who was a nice guy. He showed me around the house again, and we discussed my application. He approved me, and I was scheduled to move in on 3/1. However, a few days before moving in, I discovered it was all a scam. The person did not actually own the house. As a result, those individuals stole all my money.
When I reported the incident to the local police, they informed me that this was a known scam that has been affecting many people in the area. Unfortunately, they said there was nothing they could do to help other than filing a police report and keeping them posted if I find any additional information on the suspects. I have been sick to my stomach. I am so afraid and in disbelief. I have a total of three children and a 100-pound GSD (emotional support animal).
I am right back at square one all over again. By this weekend, my family will be homeless. I need help covering a hotel or Airbnb until I secure a new place. And I need a storage unit to store our things. Any help you can offer my family will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you & God Bless,
