Meet Reggie. The last month has been a difficult one for this sweet boy. He is approximately 3 years old, loves people and other dogs and is such a friendly and happy-go-lucky dog, especially considering his untreated injury.

Reggie was surrendered to a high-kill shelter with an injured left front leg and abrasions on his forehead and right front shoulder. It is suspected that he was hit by a car but nobody knows for sure or how long ago it happened before being turned into the shelter. He was left untreated at the shelter and down to his last 2 days to be euthanized when Austin Pets Alive (APA) stepped in and found a foster for him. X-rays revealed a dislocated and broken left front elbow. APA's vets recommended amputation. Reggie's foster went outside of APA's network and got 2 other opinions from vets. They both said that his leg could be fairly easily repaired and had good prospects of a full recovery other than the possibility of some reduced movement and some arthritis as he ages which is no different than if the same thing had happened to you or me. APA only pays for procedures done by them so the expense to get surgery will fall on his foster. This is in no way meant to discredit the efforts of APA. They do a great job of working with the limited resources that they have to help as many pets as possible. Had it not been for APA, Reggie would have been euthanized on November 5th.

We hope that you can help us to raise the funds to get him the surgery that he needs to save his leg. Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital estimated the cost of surgery to be $3,000 to $4,400 depending upon what they find during the procedure. We are trying to raise $5,000 because all donations are subject to 3% credit card processing fees and go-fund-me also keeps a percentage as a fee so that they can continue to provide this awesome service to help people like you & me raise money for such causes that are important to us. There will also be additional expenses later for follow up exams and meds. If $5,000 is raised and the expenses turn out to less, the left over funds will be donated to APA to help other pets in need.
