Fort Tryon Commemorative Bench for Henry Torres
To all of Henry’s Family, Friends and Loved Ones,
As we struggle through the grieving process, a group of Henry’s friends have decided we would like to dedicate a bench in Fort Tryon Park, Washington Heights, NY in Henry’s honor.
We chose this location for several reasons. First and foremost, the park is situated in the neighborhood where Henry grew up, lived, and spent his time. This makes it easily accessible to his mother, close family, and friends. Second, it is also a spot of heartfelt memories made for Henry and many of his friends.
We hope that this bench serves in place of a traditional burial site. A place where Henry’s loved ones can visit, gather, and spend time together in his honor surrounded by nature and views of the Hudson River. We hope it provides comfort for those who seek it and a place where one can come to sit and reflect on warm, happy memories and reminisce.
Henry brought people together, both in life and death. Be it a Milt, Novan or other, if you loved Henry, you are a friend. So, should you find yourself visiting the bench on your own, do not hesitate to call any of Henry’s loved ones to share stories or just talk. Maybe even invite a local NYer to join you for a sit on the bench, or a bite/drink at the New Leaf restaurant, situated in the park and a short 5 minute walk from the bench.
We all need to support each other through this time, and we know Henry would’ve wanted us to do it together. We hope that this bench provides a place for a start of healing, good conversation, laughs, and new friendships in his honor.
The donation will go to the Parks Department of NYC to cover the $2500 fee for the dedication plaque, as well as care for 10 years. Should damage come to the bench over the next ten years, the Parks Dept will cover the cost of replacement or repair. Should there by any overage on donations beyond what is needed for the fees, we will be gifting the remainder to other memorial funds that are in the process of being created in his name.
Big hugs. ❤️
