For Oliver Bergh

With indescribable grief, we share the news that our beautiful, hilarious, unbelievably clever and truly one-of-a-kind Oliver took his own life on the 28th of March, 2022.

To those who don’t know us yet - we (Tilly, Lisa, and Giulia) met Oliver in August 2015 when we all started at the same high school in Stockholm, Sweden. Oliver hooked us in with his ridiculous wittiness, wonderful charm, hilarious stories and “factoids” – and we’ve been inseparable ever since, even continents apart. In 2019, Oliver moved to Sydney, Australia, to study a dual major in International Relations and Politics (where he consistently landed himself in Honours Programmes and High-Distinction accolades) at the University of Sydney.

Although there aren’t words to express the weight of this loss, we want to try and commemorate Oliver’s legacy for his 23rd birthday on November 15th.

As we all know, Oliver was very politically outspoken and unapologetically supportive of his ideals. On his 18th birthday, Oliver started a campaign to raise money for Planned Parenthood with the idea of supporting the undeniably important role that reproductive health care plays in the US political climate. This is what he wrote in November 2017:

“After the election of Donald J. Trump and the approval of Judge Kavanaugh to the US Supreme Court - both in the face of a myriad of allegations of sexual misconduct, the right for women to govern their bodies and their lives are now threatened. PP provides an undeniably important role in the US political climate, and in the health and happiness of countless men and women. I’d really appreciate it if you would consider donating some pocket money to them for my birthday this year; in solidarity for the women whose lives are being threatened by the American government.”

With the recent overturn of Roe vs Wade, we think that Oliver’s efforts are more relevant than ever, and we’d like to continue the spirit and fundraiser he started. Feel free to donate to the Go Fund Me page in Oliver’s name - any amount is immensely welcomed and appreciated!

Being the outspoken, always hilarious, and incredible person he was, Oliver no doubt touched so many people in both Sweden and Australia. To celebrate and honor his memory, we’re asking his family, coworkers, classmates, and friends to share fond memories or stories of Oliver. We will compile these and create a book/memory collection page for everyone to look back on for the days when we miss him a little extra.
