Former Athlete Hampered by Stroke
Donation protected
Hi, all. My name is Sasha, and I’m fundraising for one of my long-time friends.
One of my first memories of David is of him playing basketball at one of our church lock-ins. At about 6’6”, athleticism was part of who he was. Name a sport, and he probably played it.
David was an active, good-food-loving, ever-smiling young man until a stroke nearly took him from us when he was only 37. Three years later, while the smile is still present, he is paralyzed on his left side and blind in his right eye. The stroke has also hampered his ability to plan, arrange, and make decisions. Having a stroke so young is unusual and understandably has been difficult to deal with mentally. Severe depression, which likely resulted from his diminished physical capabilities, has also had a debilitating effect on his life.
Despite these challenges, David is determined to regain his mental health and ability to be productive. He wants to get back on his feet and continue healing. With your help, he will be able to transition from homelessness and food insecurity to a stable home environment so he can focus on finding a suitable job to support himself. Your donations will go toward the following:
- Housing (for at least two months)
- Food (healthy and filling but easy to eat with one hand)
- A reliable laptop (i.e. a chromebook)
- Clothes (David’s clothing was stolen from one of his recent temporary homes) and laundry
Thank you for reading. David will appreciate any help you can give here or by donating directly to him at $djrufus25 on CashApp. Any little bit helps.
