Help Max Battle Against Lymphoma
Donation protected
This is the family of Maximass Keosombat, reaching out to you. Max is a life-loving, game-playing and bright kid who has his whole life to look forward to. We are all extremely protective of him, as he is one of the youngest children in our family. Two weeks ago, our family was extremely devastated to find out that Max has cancer. Being the six year old boy that he is makes it difficult to reach out for support, and voice his feelings on his battle through this life-threatening disease.
Two weeks ago, Max started complaining about headaches that hurt so much that he would cry in pain. He was not able to eat or run around like a normal six year old would. Anyone who knows children, knows that it is uncommon for six year olds to have headaches. Over the course of the next two days, he had lost all vision in his right eye. It was then that he was rushed to the Hospital for Sick Children, where he was immediately subject to a CT, MRI, ultrasounds and X-Ray scans, which revealed that Max had developed several tumors. One large mass was present in his brain, a few growths around both eyes and several throughout the rest of his body.
After a long and overwhelming week of hardships and uncertainty, we learned that Max had been diagnosed with B-Lymphoblastic Lymphoma - a rare and aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma of the B-lymphocytes. The cancer has also been found in his bones and bone marrow, with the most dangerous tumors located in his brain, around the orbits of his eyes and his jaw. The largest tumor is in his brain and the second one around his right eye, causing sudden blindness due to the large growth compressing the optic nerve in the orbit. Even though he had started radiation therapy immediately, it is very unlikely that he will regain sight in the eye due to the irreversible damage in the area.
The oncology team at Sick Kid’s outlined the expected treatment plan for Max. The treatment for lymphoma is chemotherapy and radiation as most cancer patients. Max is looking at a total of 3 years in treatment, broken up into different phases. In addition to the 5 types of chemotherapy, Max will require supportive drugs to counteract the side effects that the chemotherapy will have on his body and immune system. Max's immune system will be extremely weak during this period and will require around the clock monitoring. Like most people, you are never prepared to find out your child has cancer. In result of this horrible and life altering diagnosis, Max's single mother Cindy will be unable return work immediately and is not eligible for drug benefits to help cover the cost of ongoing supportive drug expenses.
This campaign is to help raise awareness of childhood cancer and to help support Maximass fight his rare case of Lymphoma, with the medication and treatment he needs. All donations will be graciously accepted and will directly aid Max’s journey in fighting cancer. If you are unable to donate, you can still help Max's fight by spreading this campaign on your social networks. Let's help him beat this!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
The family of Maximass Keosombat
Note: Funds in excess of treatment costs will be donated back to the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).
