The Issue
Kenya is facing an extreme maternal health crisis - each year over 5,000 women die from pregnancy-related complications - that’s one mom every hour. And these deaths are largely preventable. Your support can save the life of a mother... and her baby too.
In Kenya, regional hospitals are straining under the weight of growing demand. From childbirth complications to fibroids to unsafe abortions, these tragedies are symptoms of deeper systemic failures. Without a designated place for women to give birth, women in labor often deliver their children in shared rooms - sometimes even in shared beds. Surgery cases related to women’s health are often delayed due to limited hospital space and a lack of trained staff. Mothers often can’t regularly get a c-section in time to save her and her newborn. Women wait months - if not years - for the care they deserve.
Meet Evelyne
Evelyne has waited more than five years for fibroid removal surgery - due to financial constraints and lack of available treatment options. Evelyne is one of fifty women treated by our medical team Jan 2025 free of charge.
Our Solution
Saving Mothers is committed to building a Women’s Maternity Hospital Wing in West Pokot, Kenya, where the need is the highest in the country. This will be done in partnership with the local government and hospital making it a valuable regional health resource for both maternal and gynecologic care.
This expansion will:
- Create a clean, private, and safe space for women to give birth under the care of trained medical staff.
- Provide emergency obstetric care, including access to emergency c-sections, reducing maternal and newborn deaths.
- Offer gynecological services for women of all ages, including access to fibroid surgery, prolapse and fistula surgery—many of whom currently travel hours for care or go without.
- Improve the overall capacity and efficiency of Kapenguria Regional Hospital.
With your donation, we’ll break ground on a new center that puts mothers and babies first—because no woman should have to risk her life to give life.

- $1,000 supports the establishment of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for newborns that need medical attention
