New Hope For Forgotten Cats is a small North Wales based rescue, founded just over a year ago. It started from 2 people who wanted to give hope to the most neglected and forgotten cats in society, the ones abandoned by owners who leave them to fend for themselves, the ones injured or sick and left to die, the feral ones who are unneutered and destined to have litter after litter of unwanted kittens. These cats and kittens are found foster homes, taken to a vet, spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and eventually found new homes.
In the local area are also several feral cat colonies being supported by New Hope For Forgotten Cats. They are given shelters to live in, and kind local people agree to be their caretakers, giving them fresh food and water and monitoring them for illness. These cats have up to now been unneutered as there was nowhere to provide post operative monitoring/medication for 48 hours. Now this has been secured, the trap/neuter/release programme has begun. There are approximately 30 cats to date in these colonies, and the cost to neuter, microchip and give flea/worm treatment each cat is approximately £100. Here are the stories of 3 colony kittens: **Warning: Graphic Photos**
Miracle
(previous named Lucky but we thought she earned her new name )
Precious little Miracle came in to us on June 25th after being found on a driveway at 5am and was taken to a local vet. She was anaemic from all the fleas, she had an infected bite wound to her neck, massive infections to both of her eyes and was extremely frail, weighing just 230 grams, she wasn't expected to make it through the night. However she had other ideas and started taking food, she was responsive for a couple of days but then once again stopped taking food. Her little body was so badly infected and weak that she was essentially dying in front of us. Drastic measures were then taken to try and save this little girl’s life, and she had to be nourished by inserting a feeding tube directly into her stomach. This was expertly done by a very experienced foster and was the only way to keep her alive. From the photos you can see her infected eyes, which were absolutely shocking and not something we have ever seen before. The last photo shows her now at 12 weeks old, as proof that Miracles do happen!
Atticus
Found in the same area as Miracle, so probably a cousin, and born with the same infected eyes and a horrific case of cat flu. He was taken to the vet and started on oral and eye antibiotics. His flu cleared up nicely, but sadly the right eye did not recover, and his third eyelid is fused to the cornea. It is not certain whether his right eye will have to be removed, this will be assessed with he is under general anaesthetic to have neuter surgery which should be in the next couple of weeks. His flu flared up again after his first course of vaccinations, so he is just completing another week of oral antibiotics. Despite being blind in one eye, he is loving and playful, and has bonded with Ebony, another young male kitten who came into rescue with no siblings or mother. Photos show his before and after.
Finch
Finch was born into another colony and came into rescue with his brother at 5 weeks old. It soon became apparent that Finch was unwell, he was lethargic and developed blindness in one eye and limited vision in the other. He was so poorly he was not expected to survive. Blood tests revealed that he had FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) which up until recently has been a fatal disease. There is now a treatment that can help cats with this condition, but it is very expensive and not guaranteed to work. After 84 days of treatment, Finch has made an amazing recovery and is now able to play like a normal kitten with his brother. He still has limited vision, but he does not let this stop him! Photos show Finch before and after.
Any donations will go towards preventing further pregnancies in these feral colonies, so no other kittens will have to suffer the way Miracle, Atticus and Finch have! Thank you from them, and from all the other cats being cared for by New Hope For Forgotten Cats.
We are asking for a minimum donation of £1 per person, but more importantly please SHARE with everybody in your contact list. If we all do this, we are hoping that we can reach out far and wide to get funds for this very deserving rescue! We are so grateful for all your donations and shares.
** It appears GoFundMe have a minimum donation of £5. If you would like to donate a smaller amount, please see the details below.
