After a lifetime in Northern California—born and raised in Santa Rosa, college in UC Santa Cruz, and years building a vibrant, high-energy queer art community in San Francisco—I’ve found myself at a turning point. My lifelong experience as a professional welder has evolved into something new, as I’ve applied my skills in rigging large-scale art to my current career as a stagehand. I plan to join Local 16 in SF and Local 15 in Seattle, continuing to blend my technical expertise with my passion for the arts.
While working as a stagehand for the Vau de Vire Society, I met my girlfriend during a magical ten-minute attic tour at the Regency Ballroom. That brief encounter sparked a love that has inspired me to open my heart and my horizons. Earlier this month, I visited Seattle for the first time and was captivated by the city’s creative spirit and the chance to build a new life with my girlfriend. We’re both artists—my background is in large-scale metal art, fine furniture, lighting, and blacksmithing, while she is an experienced glass artist and jeweler. Together, we plan to combine our skills, teach each other our crafts, and create a beautiful life and workspace in Seattle, while still keeping strong ties to the Bay Area.
The funds raised will help cover materials, consumables, and new tools for our crafts, as well as buffer our rent while we get established and attract more tenants to our shop. I’ll also be building out new fixtures to support my girlfriend’s glass art. To help raise funds, I am also taking commissions on Norse knives, flutes, and Volva Magik Wands.
