February 21, 2022, Jekhia passed away suddenly, leaving our world completely shattered.

My baby sister Jekhia was by far the kindest, sweetest, most loving and caring person you would ever meet. She was smart, always kept straight A’s in school and even graduated at the top of her class. She was funny, always knew what to say or do, when you needed a laugh. Jekhia had so many hopes and dreams that were never out of reach for her. Some of her dreams included going to college and becoming a surgeon. She wanted nothing more than to help others. Growing up, we would constantly talk about the future and what we envisioned for ourselves. Jekhia dreamed of having the perfect job, the biggest house, and being the best mom. She absolutely loved her two nieces Nayeli and Carter and her nephew Xavier more than anything. She prided herself on being the best auntie and bragged about how amazing of a mom she would be. Little did we know, she was chosen to become one to a sweet baby girl. Jekhia was pregnant, 7 months with a baby girl whom she named Sofia. There is no doubt in my mind that she would’ve been the perfect mom. It saddens me that instead of traveling to her college graduation, planning her baby shower, or even attending her wedding, we are finding ourselves looking for the perfect way to send her and her baby girl home.

To my baby sister, you will be truly missed by us all. You are and will always be so extremely loved. Thank you for the sweet memories. 19 years wasn’t nearly enough time with you. I can only pray you and Sofia are at peace. Until we meet again.
