Forever 23: Honoring Trey’von, Our Gentle Giant
A Beautiful Smile, A Giving Heart, A Life Taken Too Soon
Never in a million years did I imagine I would be writing these words about my son.
My beloved son, Trey’von, was only 23 years old when his life was tragically taken by gun violence while working as a security guard at Soul Bar in Augusta, Georgia.
As a mother, my heart is shattered. My son went to work, just like any other day, but he never made it back home. No parent should ever have to experience the pain of losing a child, especially in such a senseless and heartbreaking way.
Trey’von was our gentle giant.
He may have been big in stature, but his heart was even bigger. He was loving, caring, kindhearted, and always smiling. His smile could brighten even the darkest days, and his presence brought comfort and happiness to those around him.
One of the most beautiful things about Trey’von was his willingness to help others. He was the kind of young man who would give someone his last dollar if they needed it. Whether it was family, a friend, or a complete stranger, if Trey’von could help, he would. He never needed recognition or anything in return. Helping people was simply part of who he was.
Trey’von was a proud graduate of Westside High School in Augusta, Georgia, where he played football. He also attended Manchester University in Indiana, continuing his educational journey and working toward a future filled with possibilities.
He was only 23 years old. He had dreams he had yet to accomplish, places he had yet to see, and so many memories still waiting to be made.
He should have had more birthdays, more holidays, more laughter, and more time surrounded by the people who loved him.
He went to work to do his job, and he deserved to come home.
Instead, our family is now facing a nightmare that no parent should ever have to endure.
As we try to navigate this unimaginable loss, we are asking our family, friends, community, and anyone touched by Trey’von’s story to help us give him the beautiful and dignified homegoing celebration he deserves.
Donations will help cover funeral services, burial and memorial arrangements, and other unexpected expenses associated with this heartbreaking tragedy. Any additional funds will help our family during this difficult time.
No donation is too small. If you are unable to contribute financially, we ask that you please share this fundraiser and keep our family lifted in prayer.
But more than anything, I want people to remember who my son was, not just how his life ended.
Remember the young man who was always smiling.
Remember the gentle giant who would give his last dollar to help someone else.
Remember the football player who proudly represented Westside High School.
Remember the young man who continued his education at Manchester University.
Remember the son, family member, and friend who loved deeply and gave so much of himself to others.
Trey’von was more than another victim of gun violence. He was my son. He was loved. He had dreams. He had a future. And his life mattered.
Twenty-three years will never be enough, but the love he gave, the kindness he showed, and the memories he created will remain with us forever.
From the bottom of my broken heart, thank you for every donation, every prayer, every kind word, and every person who helps us honor the life of my baby boy.
Forever 23. Forever Our Gentle Giant. Forever Loved.
With love and gratitude,
Trey’von’s Mother and Family
