Outdoor Learning Opportunities for our Youth
I’m a Language Immersion preschool teacher who is passionate about developing and implementing educational experiences for students in outdoor environments. Now is an especially critical time for our youth to connect to nature, as many of our children (and many adults as well) rarely have opportunities and access to outdoor and natural spaces. Last Summer I launched a pre-school summer program called Rayitos de sol, which is a Spanish and nature -based summer program that provides children with much-needed spaces in nature to connect to and protect. The benefits of learning in a natural environment are extensive; educational researchers have found that when children attend nature or forest schools in the outdoors, these children hone their motor skills, engage in more creative play, have fewer conflicts, stay healthier, learn to be more independent and develop a compassion for nature and wildlife that is likely to last a lifetime. I strongly feel that it is my responsibility to continue to develop my skills as an outdoors educator to best support my students, and I am planning on continuing to develop my capacity by completing a forest school certification program offered in Santa Barbara, California this Summer.
Fundraising Goal
I am asking for support from the community to continue my career path to complete the Forest School Certification Program offered by the Academy of Forest Kindergarten Teachers in Santa Barbara, CA this June. My goal is to fundraise a total of $3,900 dollars by March 10, 2020 to cover the following expenses:
$2,900 to cover registration/tuition expenses for Forest School Certification Program
$1,000 to cover housing and living expenses in Santa Barbara during the Program
About the Forest School Program (https://www.forestkindergartenacademy.org/#overview)

In order to build a strong foundation in developmentally appropriate practices, deep nature connection and naturalist skills, we provide an active, engaging, and transformational curriculum. The Academy's comprehensive teacher training programs, workshops, and conferences provide our students with both the theoretical and practical skills, knowledge, and magic to become exceptional educators and mentors in the field of early childhood education. Academy of Forest Kindergarten Teachers was established by Lia Grippo, Erin Boehme, Kelly Villarruel and Kolmi Majumdar in 2014 to provide innovative and in-depth training for forest school teachers and early childhood educators. Based in Santa Barbara, California, the Academy was formed in partnership with Wild Roots Forest School, one of the longest running forest schools in North America. Our team brings together extensive backgrounds and 65 years of experience in early childhood education, nature connection mentoring, and training adult learners.

I am 100% invested in these teaching methods that provide opportunities to expand our children’s relationships to nature. There is a need in our society right now for us to help each other find our way back to nature, and I am committed to becoming an agent that will support our youth in engaging in this process. Please donate to support me in achieving my mission of providing these opportunities to expand our children’s relationships to nature. Every child should have these unforgettable experiences.
