At our school we are very lucky to have a fantastic forest on our school grounds where students love playing, building dens, whittling wood, making fires and cooking. For many children, Forest School is the favourite part of their school day. This month, a resource centre for children with Specific Learning Needs has opened at our school and Forest School will be a vital component of their specialised programme.
As the need for Forest School grows, we have very limited funds to support both Forest School and outdoor play. We need a new shelter for Forest School, new tools for working with wood and ropes for rope bridges. Extra outdoor kit such as waterproofs and wellies so that every child can play outside in the forest all the year round is also crucial. Buying good equipment that will last does not come cheaply.
As Forest School leader, I want to make sure that every student has the best experience possible in our forest and outdoors. To achieve this goal I am fundraising for our Forest School by walking 50 miles over 5 days in 5 different forests.
Walking through these different forests will give me a chance to show students what incredible forests and trees we have in England as well as encourage our students and families to spend more time outside and feel the benefits of walking, both mentally and physically.
How can you help?
Please donate to our fund - every penny will go to our school’s wonderful Forest School provision for all the children! Don't forget to contribute and share on our Facebook page.
And look out over the next month for updates on each walk.
Thank you for all your support!
