Let’s Help Ecuador’s Smaller Towns

Ecuador has completely stolen my heart in every way shape and form.

As many of you know by now, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook Ecuador Saturday night in the most heart wrenching way. The death toll has spiked from the initial count of 21, then 42, to 233, then 315, to 413, to now 525 and counting with more than 2,500 others injured, not to mention the thousands who are left without shelter, food, water or resources.

Thankfully authorities and volunteers are already helping a lot of the larger cities, unfortunately there are also little towns in Manabi that have been cut off by communication which have left them isolated with a shortage of clean water, food, medicine, etc. I know this because, possibly by fate, I have met Santiago Calvopiña whose parents live in one of these small villages.

In coordination with Palmazul Artisan Designed Hotel & Spa and Blue Designer Studio, we hope to send our first truck full of supplies on Thursday, April 21st to San Clemente, San Jacinto, San Alejo and other surrounding villages. We hope to speak to locals there and find out what they really need and continue to bring the necessary goods in the weeks to come.

As an American who happened to coincidentally be in Ecuador during these trying times, and spared, I now find it in the deepest of my heart to help this truly amazing country any way I possibly can. I was scheduled to fly to Cusco, Peru this past Sunday morning but it seems like I’ll be staying in Ecuador for a bit longer. I left California to travel the world and experience rare moments, and I can certainly say that this is a life-defining moment that I've found myself in.

In a real attempt to supply necessary goods, I would like to ask for your help. Any donations you can contribute will certainly help our effort in these villages – even if it’s $1, any amount is truly appreciated and will be put to good use! Santiago and I will personally go to the market to collect the supplies and we will travel to these towns to distribute them accordingly. We will certainly document our efforts and share them with you as we go along.

I’m excited to be a part of something much larger than myself especially being so far away from home. So I’d like to thank you all in advance and I’m sure that together we can make a big impact in these small villages.

Love you all!
