Bérénice’s Fight Against Lymphoma

This is our friend and colleague BÉRÉNICE REYNAUD, film critic and curator, author, beloved teacher and beautiful human. We, Abigail Severance (Los Angeles) and Elisabeth Lebovici & Catherine Facerias (Paris), are raising funds on Bérénice's behalf. S’il vous plaît voir la fin pour le français.
BÉRÉNICE HAS STAGE 3 NON-HODGKINS LYMPHOMA. In 2016, she underwent chemotherapy and was soon in remission. Then, last summer, she received news that the lymphoma had aggressively returned. She went through another cycle of chemo this fall. Lymphoma is a blood cancer that invades the lymph nodes all over the body. It is inoperable and immensely dangerous. Thus, the next stage in Bérénice’s treatment is extreme because her cancer is extreme. She is receiving a STEM CELL TRANSPLANT along with a round of HIGH-DOSAGE CHEMO, which is quite painful. She will undergo these life-saving procedures at UCLA Medical Center this December and January.
BÉRÉNICE NEEDS OUR HELP. Despite having health insurance, she has a high deductible and her medical costs are already astronomical. As an academic, critic and curator, she doesn’t have enough income or savings to offset the costs of the care she needs. The upcoming treatments will be expensive and Bérénice will need supplementary funds for 24-hour outpatient care during the stem cell procedure ($2,500);
outpatient lodging part of the time under care at UCLA ($1,000); recovery care (about $3,000) and acupuncture & nutrition ($1,000) for several months once she’s home. These costs are already mounting, and we hope to raise the full $12,000 goal by January 31, 2018.

She’s also a fighter, most often as an advocate for the filmmakers, students, activists and rebels that make up her global family. Born and raised in France, Bérénice has lived, studied, taught and curated in New York and Los Angeles, been faculty at the CalArts School of Film/Video for over two decades, and traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe and Asia in service of her vision for a radical independent cinema. She is a force of nature and a treasure to our communities.

En plus de sa maladie, Bérénice doit faire face à des dépenses importantes qui s’ajoutent à la dureté du traitement qu’elle va subir en décembre et janvier prochains. Son salaire de professeure n’y suffira pas. Elle doit notamment rétribuer un.e assistant.e de vie qui doit se tenir 24h/24 à ses côtés en cas de problèmes liés à la transplantation de cellules souches et pendant la période post-opératoire, qui va durer plusieurs semaines.
