6/6/18 update:
As of today, 40 days after the accident, Pija is finally out of coma. That's the news we've all been waiting for! Thanks for all the positive vibes, prayers, support and donations. The road to recovery will be long and hard. She is still not able to talk or eat on her own. Left side of her body is still paralized. The right arm is what she's trying to use but it is still very weak and uncoordinated. She will be starting rehabilitation within the next day or two. All the support is very much appreciated. Thank you!

Tomorrow will be 4 weeks since my friend’s beautiful daughter has been in coma. Pija was crossing a street on April 27th with her puppy close to her home in Kaunas, Lithuania. A car in the right lane stopped to let her cross the street but a car in the next lane over didn’t even slow down killing Pija’s puppy instantly and leaving the girl in coma. Pija has not woken up since. Her left side of the body is paralyzed. She’s been fighting infections and started having epilepsy seizures. Pija is only 13. The accident happened on her little sister’s birthday who turned 11. My friend Vitalija spent her own birthday a couple weeks ago at the hospital where she’s been at day and night since the accident. Her wish for her birthday was for her daughter to wake up but that didn’t happen… Pija has been moved from ICU to her own room and her mom officially moved in to the hospital. No one knows when (and if) Pija will wake up from coma and the extent of the damages done to the brain and the rest of the body. One thing we know for sure that the life will never be the same for these three ladies.
We are asking for any help we can get. Any contributions will help. Vitalija is a single mother and hasn’t worked since the accident. Besides putting aside her own needs and being there for her oldest daughter, she has another young girl to support and take care of as well… Pija needs a lot of attention now and if/when she wakes up, she will be needing therapies and surgeries and the house will need to be equipped to support her needs...
Please let me know if you have any questions at all. I met Vitalija 20 years ago and this has been very hard to watch her go through. Below are a couple articles from a local newspaper in Lithuania.
