If you get to know Ozzy, you will find that his energy has no bounds. His motto is "ball is life" because he finds nothing more fun than retrieving a ball that was thrown by a friend. Not only does he enjoy showing amazing jumps and having challenging throws but also the fun of interacting with you. You can see that he is loyal to a fault in the fact that he sees only one toy when there are so many other toys given to him. These characteristics are clear even when spending only one day with him.
Over a month ago, we noticed that Ozzy developed a suspicious head tilt. After taking him to the vet, he was prescribed treatment to clear a possible ear infection which is common in dogs. We were given some medication that should help it resolve within 2 weeks. With the expectation that Ozzy would get better, this "ear infection" treatment ended up continuing for another 4 weeks with frequent follow ups.
Instead of seeing an improvement in his head tilt, he started having balance problems as well. He had a pattern of leaning to the right. Balls thrown to him became missed more frequently and just getting up from a nap was difficult. These signs lead us to decide on having a CT scan. This showed us that there was a mass that is growing at the base of his brain.
After visiting an Oncologist and Neurologist, it was confirmed that he has a brain tumor. This brain tumor is in spot that is not safe to be surgically removed so he will require radiation therapy to hopefully shrink the tumor. His treatment plan will require him to get radiation for about 22 consecutive weekdays. The cost rundown of his treatment will be $10K ($2.5K a week, $500 per day for each session).
We're not sure what the prognosis of his life is at this point but we are determined to provide him with the best quality care so that he can live his best life.
