Dkoa Jones is an incredible 17-year-old who enjoys spending time with his two siblings, beating his dad at video games, and sharing his dream of creating future games with his mom, all while overcoming the constant challenges of autism. On December 14, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a very rare form of cancer.
He will undergo 10 weeks of chemotherapy followed by surgery and then an additional 19 weeks of chemo as the tumor is growing dangerously close to the good bone in his right leg. His leg may need to be amputated as the surgery may cause him to lose the use of his limb because the tumor is growing into the nerve cluster. There could also be significant damage to Dkoa's hearing and his heart.
Dkoa's parents, Paula and Evan, were fixtures at South Roanoke United Methodist Church in Roanoke, VA, for over 15 years where Paula was the Youth Minister. They are now touching the lives of youth at Mandarin United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, FL.
The Coker-Jones family has only asked for prayers for healing. We hope that they will feel all the support from the many people that they have impacted throughout the years. While they are much too humble to ask for financial assistance, we know how expensive these treatments will be. This family has done nothing but give to others for years, and we prayerfully ask you to consider helping them during this most difficult time.
