Meet Zawadi Eaton. She's an up and coming writer with a singular voice that must be heard. You can help.
As a middle-class woman, Norma “Zawadi” Eaton saw a bright future for herself. She worked solidly as independent contractor in corporate offices that ranged from Toyota to Harbor UCLA Biomedical Institute and made a good salary. She was also a certified make-up artist trained by the Chanel corporation. She and her lover had been together 13 years, living a stone’s throw from the beach. But when her partner succumbed to cancer everything changed.
“When my partner died, I was lost. I ended up with an abuser looking for emotional shelter. I went from trauma to trauma. I was in such a fog. Eventually I had to flee for my life leaving everything behind: job, friends, almost everything I owned. I slept in my SUV, called 311 and got into a domestic violence shelter. It was a nightmare. Lock down, lights out, up at 4am to shower and at 5am they would make us clean. They would withhold food; it was like a prison. I had never been exposed to anything like that.”
Today, through her participation in the Urban Possibilities program, a nonprofit writing, empowerment, and performance program. Zawadi is an artist, a published author and a motivational speaker. She is the chief spokesperson for Urban Possibilities.
Zawadi has been accepted into a class at the prestigious Community Literature Initiative at USC. This class will support her work on the book she is writing about her journey. We're raising funds to pay class fees and to get her a functioning laptop. Classes start this week so we please respond ASAP!
COSTS:
Class fees: $200/month for 10 months = $2000
Laptop: $500
Total: $2500
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
