Kenya, a country famous for producing world-class runners is overlooking one of its fastest athletes… simply because she is deaf.
30-year-old Deaflympics world-record holding sprinter Beryl Wamira is running her final races in Tokyo next week — with almost no one cheering, no support, and no recognition.

Beryl isn’t just racing; she’s defending her world records and gold medals alongside her siblings, Rael and David, who are also elite deaf sprinters.
The 2025 Tokyo Deaflympics marks 100 years since the first Games, and for Beryl, this could be her last opportunity to compete on the global stage. While Kenyan Olympic champions are rewarded with millions and national acclaim, Beryl’s achievements have gone largely unnoticed. Her pursuit of excellence is an act of resilience, courage, and defiance against systemic neglect.

I met Beryl nearly two years ago at Pallet Café in Nairobi and from the moment I learnt of her story, I couldn’t believe how this champion was literally hiding in plain sight. For Your Eyes Only is my debut documentary as a filmmaker — a project I’m building from the ground up with faith and love to make sure the world sees, hears and celebrates Beryl’s world-class talent and unbelievable life story.

We’ve already self-funded early production for the film concept which you can watch here, but now we need your help to get our small film crew from New York, London and Kenya to Japan this November to shoot the most chapter defining part of the doc.
Our fundraising goal is $20k.

Your investment goes directly to:

  • Travel & lodging for our 4-person crew (Nov 16–25, 2025)

  • Local transport and equipment to capture every race and daily moment

  • Crew stipends & meals

  • Location fees, permits, and media costs

  • Camera equipment rental and international transport

  • Participant honorariums to Beryl for making this possible.

If you live in Kenya and wish to donate via Mpesa, please pay to 0704479278. All Mpesa contributions go directly toward production and travel costs for documenting Beryl’s races in Tokyo. Asanteni.
