Elijah was recently diagnosed with acute renal failure and nephrotic syndrome. He'd been hospitalized at the Children's Hospital of Georgia in Augusta on May 7th, 2023 with stage 4 renal failure. He was receiving infusions attempting to reset his kidneys, but the infusions had not been working as expected. On May 24th, his biopsy result came in and he was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulersclerosis (FSGS). He had to begin dialysis treatment immediately. he had a weeks worth of dialysis and spent 34 days in the children’s hospital in an attempt to save his life.
Sarah is a single mom and had stayed with Elijah at the hospital every night he was there. She has not left his side. She has been unable to work since Elijahs admission. He was finally discharged the beginning of June and was sent home on a new medication treatment plan and has to take about 10 different medications daily in order to maintain his health. He’s had to enroll in homebound learning due to his immune system being suppressed. That being said, between taking care of Eli, and working with her daughters school schedule on top of trying to work, it’s been almost impossible for her to get back to work enough to keep everything afloat. Because of how unpredictable his illness is, and the chances of relapsing being so high, it’s been very difficult for Sarah to be able to go back to work in order to be the sole provider for her twins and herself. Mid August, he started having the same symptoms he had pre hospital admission. As things are starting to take a turn for the worst, we are hoping to be able to raise a little more money in order to help this family make ends meet and assist in the weight she has had to carry since his diagnosis.
We're raising money to aid Sarah, Elijah, and Emery while they hit these hard times to help cover their monthly living expenses. The funds will go directly to Sarah to help cover medical fees, rent, other basic necessities, utility bills, groceries and transportation costs for the next few months until Elijah has shown more progression in his healing process.
We're believing by faith that Elijah will recover from this and respond well to the treatments planned. If you feel led to give, thank you in advance on behalf of the Rivera family
