I am Nick's Nana and this young man has been on everything possible to ride. The family has 4-wheelers and other "boy toys." Every year, the family goes to an ATV park 20 miles or so outside of Dansville, NY called Tall Pines. Ever since Nick was 5, they have gone. The family is all about the outdoors and Nick loves it all.

Sadly, this time at the ATV park, Nick and his friend were on a 4-lane speed track, the friend on her own 4-wheeler, and somehow she didn't realize she was in the same lane as Nick. He was going at least 70 mph and she 60 mph. Nick saw this and tried to veer away, but it was too late, and she came up on the right side of Nick's ride and it caught his right foot and arm. The injuries were life-threatening and thank goodness his mom thought quickly and took Nick's belt off to use as a tourniquet. Nick lost the whole back of his calf and crushed his leg and foot, also knocked his right arm out of joint, and lost a pint of blood at that point. Much went on in between with EMTs, etc., but they ended up airlifting Nick to Strong Hospital. Getting Nick stabilized was the most important issue, and after that, they moved him to Golisano Children's Hospital, which is a part of Strong Memorial. In intense pain and with open wounds prone to infection, the teams worked diligently to prevent that and put him in an induced coma. Nick just turned 16 the day this accident happened. They set his arm, which still needs work, and took his right leg from the knee down as the foot was dying. Three surgeries later, prayerfully this will be it for his leg. As the body and mind are trying to heal, other things are showing up that weren't seen to start with, so there will be ongoing medical care.

Two years ago this New Year's Eve, the family lost their middle son, Nick's brother Joshua, to a devastating accident. Still grieving, and now this with Nick has really broken this family. I don't know what their insurance covers, but I am reaching out for them to be able to pay whatever they can. I and Nick's family would be so grateful for any help they can receive. Blessings to all. Updates: Nick is home and we are all so thankful for that. Nicks attitude is very positive and Nick is moving forward to get things back to "normal" again, and we know Nick will succeed doing whatever it takes to walk again.....The Mercy flight alone is $700,000, also his prosthetic will be $28,000.00 and Nick will be needing more than one....Prayerfully between Go fund me and the grace of God we can try to make a dent for Nicks now needs and his future needs.....Reaching out for any help they can get....Thank you to all who have donated, forever grateful....will keep this updated....God bless all....
