On Friday, October 16th, our parents' home was destroyed in the Norte Fire.
The way the fire spread was so fast and sudden. They were preparing for their wedding anniversary weekend getaway when they saw some smoke far in the distance. Less than 20 minutes later, the fire was on the hill at the end of their street. They evacuated with what they could, assuming they would be coming back to their home that they had so lovingly created.
The McNabb house is more than a house. It is a gathering place for friends and family. They have hosted fundraisers, wedding showers, baby showers, holidays, and birthdays. There is always room for more people, and they never say no to an impromptu stop-over from a friend.
When they moved to San Juan Capistrano nearly 10 years ago, they immediately began building their community, while also building their dream home. They connected with neighbors, found a church home, and jumped into the Rotary Club.
Our parents love people. They love community. There is so much support for them, but we need a place to localize efforts. That is why we started this GoFundMe.
Thank you for your support during this incredibly trying time. We will update this page as needs come up. Right now, we are focusing on finding them a place to stay and making sure they have the items they need. Thank you in advance for your help and support.
We are celebrating that our parents are still with us. That our kids get to have more time with their grandparents. We know that whatever is next for them will take time, and we will wait patiently and listen to the Lord for what is next.
Thank you to the firefighters who protected the rest of their neighborhood and fought so hard for their house. Watching the news coverage and knowing that these men and women have families of their own that love them and need them to come home is not lost on us. Their bravery and courage and sense of duty to the strangers they serve will be forever on our hearts.
