Hi! I’m Kayla and I’m making this for my dad.

My dad is one of the hardest-working people I know. He always puts others before himself and never asks for help—even when he needs it. Recently, he became very ill and had to be rushed to the ER. After testing, we learned he had a bowel blockage that had ruptured and needed emergency surgery.

Even in pre-op, my dad was more worried about reminding everyone it was my mom’s 60th birthday than about himself. I’ve rarely seen fear in his eyes, but that day, I did. Doctors warned he might need a permanent ileostomy, but thankfully, the surgery went well. He will have a temporary ileostomy for a few months and will need another surgery down the road.

The first thing he asked when he woke up was, “What about work?” That’s just who he is—always thinking about providing for his family. But now, he won’t be able to work for a while, and the medical bills will be more than my parents can manage.
