Dear Community,
It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that our beloved brother, Travis Spencer, suffered from a devastating stroke in December that has deeply affected his overall wellbeing.
As many of us are aware, Travis is a man of many gifts and he wears many hats in his communities. He is a wonderful father, a therapist, a veteran, a drummer; and a mindfulness teacher. Over the years, Travis has generously dedicated himself to serving African-Americans and communities of color through counseling young people, organizing drumming opportunities for kids of color, and co-founded a non-profit, the Institute of African American Mindfulness (IAAM), whose mission is to offer mindfulness and other healing practices to People of Color in Washington DC to support healing and empowerment.
While Travis is having to deal with the natural difficulties that often come along with suffering from a stroke, he is currently in rehab where he is beginning to regain strength that was lost on the left side of his body as a result of the stroke.
During this time, we would like to support our dear brother financially to assist him in his healing and recovery. The funds collected here will go directly to supporting Travis’s lost income, medical expenses, medications, transportation expenses to and from rehab, and meals. No amount is too small, and Travis greatly appreciates your kindness and generosity.
