“for the LOVE of LEEPER”

Join us as we come together to rebuild Leeper Park tennis courts in South Bend, Indiana, inspired by the life of A. David Filer V.

We are partnering with the South Bend Venues, Parks & Arts; VSBM; USTA; and South Bend Community Tennis Association.

South Bend Community Tennis Association is a 501C.3 organization whose mission is to grow and support tennis in the greater South Bend area.

The Plan:

Phase 1 of the project involves the total reconstruction of the current tennis courts and refurbishment of the existing clubhouse. This portion of the project is estimated to cost approximately $1.5 million.

Although Leeper Park Tennis Center has had face-lifts over the years, it needs total refurbishment. This renovation will allow MANY opportunities for the Greater South Bend community to participate in the sport.

The Inspiration:

This effort was inspired by the life and legacy of A. David Filer V. David grew up in South Bend and started playing tennis at the age of 3. He loved the sport, learned and refined his skills with tennis professionals from all over the Michiana area. He played many tournaments at Leeper Park Tennis Center and became an accomplished USTA Blue-Chip player. He was ranked in the top 10 in the nation from age 10 and had aspirations of becoming a professional tennis player someday. Unfortunately, David did not realize his dreams. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 15 and died just 13 months later, in 2023. He inspired his friends and family with his passion for life, his courage and fighting spirit in the face of adversity both on and off the court, and his love of tennis. Now David’s memory has inspired the “for the LOVE of LEEPER” campaign.
