For the love of Jenni Kennedy

Friends and Loved Ones,

Everyone who knows Jenni is overcome with grief, struggling to understand this tragedy. Jenni went in for a fairly routine abdominal surgical procedure. The surgery went well, however she was found unresponsive that evening, CPR was initiated and she was taken to the ICU. The cause of the arrest is still unknown. We have all prayed so much for her recovery. A few days later we were informed of the devastating news that her MRI showed no brain function as far as they can access. The family has met with the Iowa Donor Network.

It’s amazing to see friends and family supporting each other. Even now, she’s keeping us together. We are lucky to call Jenni a friend, daughter, a sister, a partner, and we are forever grateful for the love and joy we shared—and all the text messages! So many texts.

Jenni filled our lives with love like no one else can, and we will forever feel the empty space she leaves behind. Luke and Jenni (and Barley!) are ambitious, compassionate people with careers to match. Luke is a full-time firefighter, Jenni a nurse. Just weeks ago, Jenni graduated from Creighton University to be a nurse practitioner. We were all so proud as she has worked so hard for this achievement the last 3.5 years.

Now more than ever, Luke, Jenni’s husband, needs our love and support. He also needs practical support. Luke and Jenni were building a life together, and that leaves Luke with not only unimaginable grief, but also financial commitment. Nothing can ease the pain of loss, but alleviating some of Luke’s financial burden will give him space to grieve. Please honor Jenni by showing Luke the generosity and love that she gave to us.
