Many of you know our dear friend Michelle and her constant (and I do not use that term "constant" lightly) companion Miss Ellie. Since Michelle rescued the now 9 year old “Schmaltz” (Shih Tzu/Maltese) six years ago the two have traveled all over the US and Canada meeting thousands of people along the way. The extremely sweet and funny girl who loves to sit pretty and do tricks for treats (I'm talking about Miss Ellie here) steals hearts where ever she goes. Now she needs you to open yours.
Last year Miss Ellie was diagnosed with IMT or ITP – Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia. The diagnosis is devastating for most pets but miraculously, Ellie recovered enough to go into remission and began to feel much better. The miracle was more than likely fueled by the incredible bond the two share and the willingness for Michelle to make so many sacrifices for the care of her beloved pet including specialized veterinary care, a very specific diet, and alarms set for medication times and exercise.
Despite this dedication, as can happen with IMT/ITP, Miss Ellie recently suffered a relapse, requiring emergency veterinary care and a hospital stay. The care she’s received from veterinary specialists and the ongoing treatment including medication and special diet is financially challenging for Michelle.
Miss Ellie has given Michelle nothing but love, joy and companionship for six years. For Michelle no sacrifice seems too great but unfortunately there are financial limitations for all of us. Perhaps with our help we can ease that burden for our friend.
