For the family of Vladimir Rylski

I didn’t know Vladimir Rylski well, but as his daughter Zuzanna’s academic mentor and friend, I had the privilege of making his acquaintance. Zuzanna, a junior at Rainier Beach High School, is an impressive student with high aspirations for her future. She recently applied to summer pre-college programs at Stanford and Berkeley. Vladimir always encouraged Zuzanna to achieve, and she spoke of her father as someone whose proclivity to use his hands for creative pursuits (he was a keen boat maker and photographer) heavily influenced her choice to pursue architecture as a career. Vladimir was a kind and thoughtful man who would periodically send Zuzanna to our Saturday sessions with little gifts like chocolates or Polish Knick-knacks to share with me.
Earlier this week, a tragic accident occurred. While cycling his regular commute on Rainier Avenue, Vladimir was involved in a hit-and-run accident. Sadly, he passed away at the scene. Vladimir leaves behind Zuzanna, 16, as well as his wife, Jola. Vladimir was a Polish language interpreter who enjoyed camping, bicycling, and skiing with his family. He will be deeply missed.
As the Rylski family copes with the sudden and tragic loss of their loved one, they also face a change in their financial situation along with the monetary burden of laying a loved one to rest. I would like to extend an invitation to support the Rylski’s in a concrete way by contributing towards funeral expenses. Any amount you can give will be much appreciated as it will allow the Rylski’s to focus on honoring Vladimir’s memory and healing as a family during this difficult time.
