For the family of Stephen Jason McDonough

Donation protected
On December 11th our dear friend Stephen Jason McDonough passed away, at far too young an age. He was a  loving son, brother, uncle and friend who touched everyone he came across with his extraordinary generosity and loyalty. Jason would do anything for his friends, and for any animal in need. His 15 minutes of fame came from pulling over to help an injured dog whose life he wound up saving, and the dog was reunited with its grateful family.  When I volunteered to be a wildlife  rehabber and was immediately saddled with a tribe of orphaned raccoons and squirrels, he dropped everything and spent days making the baby raccoons an elaborate outdoor cage with empathy nailed into every board.

Jason’s mother Mary is the matriarch of a very diverse and supportive clan, the large and loving family that gave Jason his huge heart. She fought to have her son home on hospice in her own room during these last weeks before Christmas so that he would not be one of the many unfortunate souls forced to endure those final moments alone during this terrible and isolating time. His sister and her beautiful 10 month old twins are also living with his mother. They had, for way too brief a time, the chance to know the most fun and loving uncle anyone could ever ask for.  Mary still looks after her other children and grandchildren and any funds raised here will go directly to her.

I don’t know what kind of a funeral Jason’s family will be able to put together for him, but if a celebration of his life is able to occur at a later date, I know it will be full of those of us whose lives were so much better for having known him. In light of the costs of these arrangements, and the upcoming holiday, things will be extremely difficult for Jason’s family and it is my greatest hope to ease their strain and suffering however I am able. I would like to help them, and I hope you will join me in making a donation however small to honor Jason’s memory, so that Christmas can be just a little bit brighter for this remarkable family; so that we can honor Jason the way he deserves to be honored. Thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart.
