Some men lead. Some men mentor. Sgt. Richard Stroud was a father not only to his beloved children, but also to the countless men that had the privilege to serve under him as Marines.
Not only by blood, but by the way he cared for those around him, words cannot begin to describe the man that he was and the impact he made on so many. He looked after his Marines, guided them, believed in them, and carried their burdens as if they were his own. He was the kind of man who made you feel like family from the moment you met him. Not only did men seek his approval, but wanted to emulate him in every aspect of their lives.
I did not have the privilege of serving under him for long, but the impact he had on my life is everlasting. His selflessness, strength, and unwavering devotion to others shaped countless lives. He served his country honorably, never seeking recognition and never putting himself first.
Today, we mourn the loss of an incredible Marine, but more importantly, we mourn the loss of a father to so many.
As he selflessly devoted his life to his country , his men and his family, now it is our obligation to do the same to his wife, children and loved ones. Let us come together now and show his family the same love, generosity, and commitment that Sgt. Stroud showed to all of us.
Semper Fidelis.
May the Lord welcome Richard into his arms and watch over and guide his family in this time.
