For the Family of Michael Stassi
Donation protected
During this Christmas season, our community lost a hero, Shanna lost a loving husband, and six-year-old Tanner lost his father and best friend. Christmas will never be the same for them.
As shattered as we are, his wife and son are in the process of picking up the pieces, and the only thing that keeps them going as a family is the spirit with which Michael lived his life. His death is devastating, but let me tell you about the grit and the determination with which he lived.
Law enforcement was a family tradition in the Stassi home. Michael's wife Shanna is an investigator with the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office and a retired Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputy. But the tradition goes much farther with his father, Roy Stassi, and his brother Shawn. His Uncle's Salvatore and Tomas, and Grandfather were all police officers. Mike spent his life serving & protecting his community. He was a great, caring, generous man who helped many people, but that's who he was. Always helping.
Mike started working at his parent's restaurant, Sackett's, volunteered at the Brewerton Fire Dept & became Fire Chief. He also volunteered at the Brewerton Ambulance, where he became the Director. Mike began giving back to his community when he first started working at the Eastern Ambulance and the Onondaga County 911 center.
In November 1997, Michael joined the Village of Jordan Police Department, and in August 1998, he joined the Village of North Syracuse Police Department, where he became a Detective and retired in 2010. Mike was a proud member of the Central New York Lodge #315 Fraternal Order of Police.
In 2014, Michael became a Fire Commissioner with the Brewerton Fire District, but the most important job of all was the job of being a father to their son, Tanner.
Michael passed away at Crouse Hospital on December 19th from a heart attack and liver complications.
Please consider donating to help with Mike's funeral expenses and provide for Tanner's future. A trust fund is being established for him. Please share this page across all of your social media platforms to get the message out.
