For the family of Alexander Makana

Aloha friends and family,
I have started this account to assist a mother, friend and co worker; as her family struggles through an incredible tragedy. They lost their 6 year old son. Sweet Alexander Makana, left his earthly home after a tragic accident. Every family’s worst nightmare. I’m hoping that this fundraiser can at least help to ease the financial burden of his medical treatment and funeral expenses. Hoping to give this family some time to grieve and also to celebrate the life of this beautiful boy. I would love to see our community come together and surround Jahnavi, Von, Arjuna and Drew with love and light through this incredibly difficult journey. It’s so hard for a family to have to think of anything else in their time of heavy grief. Thank you for reading, please help if you can, and please share this post. Hug your loved ones everyday ❤️
-Below is a beautiful tribute to Makana, from his parents.
“Many have graciously shared their prayers, words of healing and beautiful memories of our sweet Makana boy. People who had never met him personally or didn't know of the joy he brought to everyone he encountered have been so incredibly uplifting for his entire family and that aloha has sheltered our hearts throughout this tragedy. When we needed you all the most you were all there for us to make the burden a little lighter.
And of course everyone has pledged to do anything they can to ease the suffering. We feel that the highest way to honor our son is to continue to hold him as a guiding light of inspiration to carry each and every one of us through not only the dark times but also every single moment of our days. Look to Makana and find peace, light, joy and the strength and conviction to find happiness for ourselves and to help others find happiness too. Spread his enthusiasm for life and his uninhibited hope to make friends and connect with everyone he could see with his eyes. He loved everyone so deeply and it didn't matter if it was a family member or someone he was just meeting and may rarely see or never interact with again. He eagerly invited anyone he crossed paths with into his heart and actively sought out everyone possible as a friend. He didn't have a shy bone in his body and he wanted everyone to feel the euphoria of connecting with others. He made us all better people while his soul was here with us in its beautiful earthly shell. And his spirit is still living in everyone his spirit touched. So while we can no longer hold him we can continue to hold up his spirit as a beacon to guide us on the path to being better, stronger, more compassionate people. When difficulty arises and you don't know which way to turn, turn to Makana. Know that his spirit will give you the strength to make the difficult choices that will do the most good.
Knowing how he transitioned from the earthly bounds to divine spirit is extremely heavy and the pain will never fade. But all that he accomplished and experienced while his body and mind were intact here with us weighs exponentially more than any of the sorrow. And his time with us will continue to guide us to the peace, joy and genuinely effortless fellowship he has guided us towards since he was conceived in the womb.
So go beyond holding our loved ones closer. Hold everyone closer. Allow everyone an opportunity into your heart and an inviting path into your soul. Share your joy and your heartache. Have compassion for everyone. Look for and foster friendship, happiness and community bonds. Always appeal to the better angels of our nature and life's silver linings as Makana always did.
A new special friend we embraced into our extended ohana while saying goodbye to Makana before his soul left his body said that there must be some way back from loss. And she's right. None of us can be sure what we will encounter on this path back from loss. But we have Makana's light and spirit to guide our minds and our hearts every step along the way. We will, and hope everyone else will, allow Makana's spirit to be our guide back from loss. We must all also allow his beautifully ageless and infectiously inviting soul to be a beacon of hope for everyone near and far, known and unknown. Makana is within all of us now and as we are honored by our experiences with him we owe him the honor of continuing the good work he came here to do. We will always love you sweet Makana boy, sweetest boy ever. And we will forever honor you in every breath we take for the rest of our lives.
All of our love forever,
Daddy and Mommy”
